The CLT, also known as the Classic Learning Test, is a new alternative to the SAT and ACT, taking a new approach to standardized testing. Specifically, the CLT was designed to assess test takers' readiness for higher education along with offering colleges an additional way to evaluate applicants. The scoring goes from 0 to 1200.
Content
The CLT includes 3 mandatory sections with 40 questions each, which makes it a total of 2 hours and 20 minutes. The required sections are: Quantitative reasoning: math and logic; Verbal reasoning: test comprehension and analysis; Reading/grammar section: text editing and improvements.
Preparation
CLT offers a variety of free studying resources on their website. This includes practice exams along with the answer keys and explanations. There is also a student guide available for order, which has full length practice tests along with essay prompts and tips for taking the exam.
Benefits
The CLT takes a holistic approach on testing, which means the test balances all aspects of the language, not small parts. This is ideal for those who thrive in a classic learning environment. Additionally, made up credits can be gained by taking the CLT. Unlike any other college admission exam, students can take the CLT in the comfort of their own home. The exam is recorded during this and then closely reviewed by CLT officials.
Registration
Students will need to make a CLT account before they register for their exam. From there, they will choose a date they prefer and pay in order to take it. The fee is $59.
Acceptance
Currently, the CLT is not as accepted as the ACT or SAT. However, the number of colleges who accept the CLT as a college admission exam is increasing.
Concerns
College Board and other sources report that there is no evidence that the CLT predicts a student's success in college.
