Virtual College Visits - What, When, and How

Virtual college visits are a great way to experience a college/university a student is interested in attending without spending money on travel expenses or during this pandemic where travel is prohibited. The simplest way to schedule these tours is through the college/ university websites. These tours are usually accompanied by an admissions officer that will happily answer any questions you might have, from questions about living in on-campus dorms to what classes an incoming freshman might look forward to taking. The simplest way to access these tours is by searching on the university website for “virtual tours” here you’ll find what the university has to offer. Most include videos to watch beforehand and then a place to sign up for guided virtual tours. University of Florida (UF) offers virtual tours Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through the month of June, available at 10:00 am and 3:30 pm eastern time. Be sure to register at least two weeks ahead to ensure a spot on the tour. Many top schools offer similar tours so be sure to schedule accordingly. Apply for these visits before making a decision in the college/ university you wish to attend.

Some schools don’t even require appointments, rather they have uploaded tours on websites such as YouTube to be viewed 24 hours a day. However, these don’t have someone to answer questions during or after the tour. Instead, it is advised to contact that schools’ admissions for any questions you may have but you can receive a wonderful view and experience of these schools through these informative videos. A few hours and a few questions can save you years of regret when choosing the right school. Remember you may spend upwards of four years in a university so make an educated decision.
