Behind this new bill, DeSantis is standing behind curriculum transparency. Schools are
being limited in the selection of books they may include in their curriculum as some previous
choices have been highlighted as questionable. Classic readings like “To Kill a Mockingbird”
have been removed from the eighth-grade curriculum and others like “Gender Queer” used in
Pinellas County schools. The goal is to limit and remove controversial titles in today’s
educational system as parent concerns increase.
