Many universities/ colleges use resources such as the Common Application and Coalition Application to sift through incoming applications. Some universities, such as Florida International University, must be applied through their own college/university website. Through the “Common App” tab, in the Common Application website, students have the ability to upload all their needed documents including; family history, past education, extracurriculars, essays, and past test scores (SAT, ACT, AP, SAT Subject, IB, PTE Academic, and IELTS). The essay area is a crucial portion of the application and must be taken seriously.
We recommend multiple drafts and having separate individuals proofread your essay to ensure a well-rounded outcome. In addition, keep in mind that teacher and community leader recommendations also play a large role in receiving an acceptance from a College/ University. Through the “My Colleges” tab on the Common App website, students are able to invite and manage recommendations.
Both the Common App and Coalition App are extremely user friendly and very similar in the way they work. The only difference is the colleges/ universities that the companies have contracts to apply to. The Coalition app rather than having tabs on the top of your screen will have a main menu to choose from to begin the application process. This screen includes options such as; start your profile, add to your locker, invite contacts, and build your college list. Just like the common app the steps to apply are relatively the same just with different names.
Found on both application websites are easy to follow tutorials in case a student ever runs into any difficulties using the websites as well as an extensive help center that offers answers to any questions you might have. This process of applying allows students to apply to many schools through a few simple steps. Below is a list of the most popular Florida schools that can be applied to through the two applications.
